John Richmond Lane

John Richmond Lane passed away on July 30, 2022, in Spokane, Washington, with his devoted wife, Betty Ann (Boring) Lane, of 60 years by his side. He was born January 15, 1940, to Woodsie Melvin “Bud” and Thelma Marie (Eddelman) Lane in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was the fourth out of nine children; he was 82 years old.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers Melvin, Doyle, Gene, Kenny, Kim “Dober”, and Alan “Bunk” and a sister Selena.

He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and moved to Shelton, Washington, when he was five years old. He attended Shelton Public Schools and worked for his family’s house moving business and then entered the Navy for four years. After the Navy, he returned to Shelton and worked for Simpson Timber as a heavy equipment operator. He also spent several years in Alaska as a heavy equipment operator and supervisor. John moved his family to Clarksville, Arkansas, in 1980, where he and his wife owned and operated an apartment building. John and his son Toby were partners in a general contractor business for several years and the last 15, before retirement, he worked as a Greyhound Bus driver.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Spokane, Washington a sister, Patricia Smith, of Olympia, Washington; his children; Toby and (Shawna) Lane, of Shelton, Washington; Lisa and (Kevin) Walton, of Centralia, Washington; Shirlie Lane, Susan Selby, and Cory Lane, of Spokane, Washington. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A gravesite service, officiated by Rev. Dennis Tyas, was held at the Shelton Memorial Park in Shelton, Washington, and a Celebration of Life was held at the Mason County Christian School on November 19, 2022.
