Post-election day surge lifts Rhodes in clerk race

Mason County appears to be in line for a new clerk as Charles Rhodes leads in the race for clerk against incumbent Sharon Moore-Fogo on Monday’s updated vote count.

Commissioner

Sharon Trask has retained her spot on the Mason County Board of Commissioners with a convincing win in the general election after Monday’s vote count update.

“I am truly grateful for the trust Mason County has in my decision-making ability and the direction Mason County is headed,” Trask said in an email to the Journal. “My re-election is a confirmation to me that I am doing the job I was elected to do.”

Trask, a Republican incumbent, received 15,215 votes for 56.03%. She leads the race by 3,344 votes, as Gutierrez, a Democrat Shelton City Council member, received 11,871 votes for 43.71%.

Trask will serve her second term as commissioner after being elected to her first term in 2019.

“The campaign was quite the adventure. I enjoyed talking with people and answering questions during the debates and at meet and greets,” Trask said. “I have to say I’m happy to see the signs coming down so that we can see the beauty of Mason County! Miguel was the perfect running mate. We both agreed at the beginning that we would be “nice” and that the race was about policy. We stuck to that agreement and the general allowed both of us to be ourselves. Miguel was very kind! We need more of that.”

Trask thanked her voters and everyone who participated in the election process.

“It is very difficult to predict the future,” Trask said. “Is there a recession coming? What new adventures will come to Mason County? My biggest priority is to continue my service to the people of Mason County. I will represent Mason County on the committees I serve on to the best of my abilities. I will make sure we are able to provide the services our county needs now and might need in the future. My goal is to represent all of Mason County and work toward solving the issues we have. I also want people to know they can reach out. The saying is true: we don’t know what we don’t know. Reach out; I am here to listen and to help.”
