'Night of Musical Theater' opens tonight

Collaboration between choirs, drama club

Shelton High School stages its annual "Night of Musical Theater" production at 7 p.m. tonight and Friday, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday in the school's Performing Arts Center. Admission is the suggested donation of $15.

The show is a collaboration between the school choirs, under the direction of Paul Nakhla; the school's Drama Club, under the direction of Wendy Burr; and the Entertainment Productions class, directed by Joey Seward.

"For Forever: A Timeless Adventure" is the theme of the show. The students started planning the show in January, and suggested songs. Students Sio Nuxoll and Leon Reynolds wrote the script that ties the songs together.

The story follows two young women as they travel through time. Each song is designed to represent an era.

The show kicks off with "Time Warp" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," which might prompt Boomers out of their seats to put their hands on their hips and leap about. Act 1 continues with "Schuyler Sisters" from "Hamilton," "It's The Hard Knock Life" from "Annie," "Therapy" from "Tick ... Tick ... Boom!," "Skid Row" from "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Wait for Me (Reprise)" from "Hadestown."

Act II showcases "30/90" from "Tick ... Tick ... Boom!," "(I Guess I) Miss You" from "The SpongeBob Musical," "For Good" from "Wicked," "Welcome to the Renaissance" from "Something Rotten," "Greased Lightning" from "Grease," "Bring on Tomorrow (Reprise)" from "Fame," and "Come So Far (Got So Far to Go)" from "Hairspray."

Katie Davis is the student director, Nuxoll the drama director. The production team members are Oakley Poland, Zoe Hinzpeter, Madi Nelsen and Sophia Nakhla.

The cast also includes Aurora Farley, Palisade Gallagher, Claire Godwin, Aaliyah McCrehin, Elliot Mobley, Amikha Nakhla, Michael Nau, Marissa Norton, Sam Olson, Tristan Olson, Jack Parker, Kimberly Perez-Martin, Davinn Place, Tatiana Reed, EmmaRae Siemssen, Heaven Smith, Molly Stratton, Hailey Strozyck-Frazier, Vera Tuitea, Tyler Vogel, Graham Wahleithner, Fade Wilcox and Mark Wood.

The Shelton High School choirs and bands perform a holiday concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 in the PAC. Donations are accepted.
