New Belfair apartments almost ready

The Olympic Sunset View apartments will soon have people coming and going, as they are set to begin renting to tenants in November.

Harbor Custom Development Chief Operating Officer Jeff Habersetzer said it was a challenging construction site.

"It's on a bit of a hillside and after a very wet winter, we came through the other side in pretty good shape," Habersetzer told the Journal. "The project is really rounding into form now and it's going to turn out to be a big success for us."

The apartment timeline is in two phases, according to Habersetzer. Phase one is building 126 units and phase two is 102 units. Phase one will be completed by March and phase two should be complete by the summer, adding 228 new single-family housing units.

Habersetzer said they will begin renting as soon as each building is completed and occupancy permits are obtained, which is estimated to be as early as November.

The buildings are a mix of one-and two-bedroom apartments. The starting rent for one bedroom will start at $1,695 per month and the two bedroom apartments will start at $2,095 per month. One-bedroom apartments range from 682 to 708 square feet and the two-bedroom apartments range from 931 to 999 square feet.

Habersetzer said all that's left to complete before renting is to ensure they are suitable for tenants, including installing mailboxes and a few other items. The recreation building for the apartments is also expected to open by the end of the year, and it will include a pool for summer use.

The only entry for the apartments is Ridgepoint Boulevard Northeast, which has been the subject of controversy, including a two hour long meeting with the state Department of Transportation and the community about options for traffic mitigation.

Habersetzer said the company did coordinate with DOT in conducting the traffic analysis. A state DOT traffic analysis determined the average wait time to take a left turn did not meet the threshold for implementing traffic mitigation at the intersection.

The complex has received inquiries by potential tenants and there is an interest list, according to Habersetzer.

"It's a really interesting location. It's a very high-traffic area, it's right there on the highway, very visible," Habersetzer said. "Belfair is a really unique place and a really beautiful place. We felt that there wasn't really a multi family product like this in that area so we were really eager to serve this community and anticipate renting out to a wide variety of people ranging from armed service members located at the base there as well as people working at the Amazon distribution facility, or really anybody just looking for nice, new apartments."

Habersetzer said he usually sees the sun rise while he's there so he hasn't confirmed if sunset view is a fitting name for the apartments.
