Shelton Football

Shelton lost 48-6 against W.F. West in its opening EvCo game of the season Sept. 16 in Chehalis.

The lone touchdown for the Highclimbers was a Mason Goos’ 55-yard pass to Weetly Cordova. The Bearcats scored 13 in the first quarter and 14 in the second quarter to build a 27-6 lead at halftime and cruised to victory in the second half.

Goos was 16 of 32 for 187 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Bradley Eleton led the rushing attack with six carries for 22 yards. Dante Trikoff was the leading receiver with nine catches for 43 yards and Gabriel Menefee added three catches for 66 yards.

W.F. West had 404 yards of offense compared to 231 total yards for the Highclimbers.

Shelton (3-1, 0-1) hosts Rochester on Friday in an EvCo contest.

Shelton Girls Soccer

Shelton dropped two matches last week to W.F. West and North Thurston at home.

The Highclimbers fell to the Bearcats 2-1 on Sept. 13 before losing 5-2 to North Mason on Sept. 17.

Shelton faced Centralia on the road Tuesday and hosts Tumwater today in EvCo games.

Correction: A story on Shelton girls soccer in the Sept. 15 edition of the Journal incorrectly stated that Madison Gill didn’t play as a junior last fall. The Journal regrets the error.

Shelton Golf

Shelton barely fell to Aberdeen 249-254 in an Evergreen Conference boys golf match at Alderbrook Golf Course on Monday.

Carson Harmon led the Highclimbers with a 47.

Wyatt Anthis shot a 50 and Holmes Waltermire was right behind him with a 51. Charlie Morson and Austin Covert each carded a 53 and Ty Anthis rounded out Shelton with a 55.

Aberdeen’s Charlie Ansich earned medalist honors with a 43.

Shelton was back at Alderbrook on Wednesday against Montesano in a nonleague match. The Highclimbers host six schools in a tournament Monday at Alderbrook.

North Mason Football

The Bulldogs traveled to Kingston and lost 34-19 in an Olympic League football game Sept. 16.

North Mason (0-3) hosts North Kitsap on Saturday in another league game.

North Mason Girls Soccer

North Mason dropped a pair of games last week to Sequim and Bainbridge.

The Bulldogs lost 12-0 to Sequim at home Sept. 13 and followed it up with a 9-0 loss to Bainbridge on the road.

North Mason (0-3, 0-2) hosted Port Angeles on Tuesday and travels to Bremerton today in league contests.

North Mason Volleyball

North Mason opened the regular season with two Olympic League losses to Sequim and Bainbridge.

The Bulldogs lost 3-1 to Sequim in the home opener Sept. 13 before falling in a sweep to Bainbridge on the road.

North Mason (0-2, 0-2) hosted Port Angeles on Tuesday and hits the road to face Bremerton today.

North Mason Cross Country

North Mason’s Kezlie Thygesen finished in fourth place in the 44th Salt Creek Invitational cross country meet Saturday near Port Angeles.

Thygesen, a senior, completed the race in 19 minutes, 26 seconds. Cali DuPont finished 26th in 22:45 and Paige Kelly earned 35th with a time of 24:19.

Jaea Swaser took 49th place and Alexis Antonowicz earned 50th.

In the boys race, Jackson Bergdahl was the highest finisher for the Bulldogs, placing 26th with a time of 17:54. Anders Oldright finished 66th, Ben Ford placed 67th and Trent Petersen placed 69th for North Mason.

The Bulldogs traveled to Bremerton for an Olympic League meet Wednesday.

Mary M. Knight Football

The Owls lost 43-12 to Lake Quinault in Matlock in a six-man Coastal League football game on Sept. 17.

Mary M. Knight (0-2) hits the road for the first time this season to take on Wishkah Valley at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Mary M. Knight Volleyball

The Owls earned their first win against Matlock before a loss against Crescent in two nonleague volleyball matches last week.

Mary M. Knight won 3-2 against Winlock at home on Sept. 13. The Owls traveled to Crescent on Sept. 15 and lost 3-1.

Mary M. Knight (1-4) hosted Pe Ell on Wednesday before opening up league play against Chief Kitsap Academy in Suquamish today.
