Michael James Mitchell

Michael "Mike" Mitchell was born to Jack and Mary Mitchell in Shelton, Washington. He was a lifelong resident of Shelton, living his 74 years loving our community. He passed peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital with his family at his side. He was diagnosed with liver and lung cancer 10 days before his passing.

Mike attended Irene S. Reed High School before joining the US Army, where he served honorably in the Vietnam War. He worked as a Surveyor, Welder and Inspector at Certified Manufacturing and in the logging industry before returning to college and eventually owning Evergreen Well Drilling, until he retired.

In 1975, Mike married Marlys Kay Flory. Together they raised three children, Jeff Harber, Jack Mitchell, and Katie Mitchell-Raza. Mike loved raising his children in a small town and enjoyed being outdoors or on the water with his family and friends. He was proud of his children and the adults they have become. His lasting knowledge that he bestowed upon them will forever be cherished.

Mike was incredibly intelligent and was a true "Renaissance Man". His interest and talents were vast and varied. He enjoyed woodworking, canning, cooking, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, and hunting, wine making and distilling which he referred to as Cloquallum Cellars. He loved working in his greenhouse and processing meat in his shop. He was a wonderful writer, builder, artist and cooked great Bar-B-Q! He traveled to several local events with his BIG gas barbecue that he built, serving thousands over the years with his friends and family. His happy place was sitting around the campfire with his friends having a few "toddies" telling stories. He loved being outdoors since he was a small child. Mike never did anything small. He worked hard, played hard and truly lived the way he wanted. If you were his friend, it was for life.

Mike is survived by his wife Marlys, son Jack (Kelli), daughter Katie (Mohsin), five grandkids, Kelsey, Ashtyn, Jace, Brayden, Layla and great-granddaughter Genesis. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and son, Jeff.

His friends and family are invited to share happy memories and celebrate Mike's life in a way he would want to be remembered. Join us on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the SHOP on Cloquallum Rd, Shelton, Washington. We will be having a potluck, please bring a lawn chair and BYOB.

Mike was generous in life and spirit and loved his family and friends. He is loved and will never be forgotten.
