The wind blows, and Mary updates her scrapbooks

Friday, April 30, 1948

This morning Nell Anderson and Edna Haines came early and we went to catch the 10:15 boat. Mayme Gould nearly missed it as she thought it was 10:30. I had given her up and gone on the ferry when in she came. Sam dropped us off at the Gowman Hotel and got the car serviced. We went to lunch for "Little Sisters" and had a marvelous time. We introduced our "Sisters" and heard a good program. Saw Mrs. Ostrander and was I glad. I hope to visit her chapter one day. Afterward we all separated, and I ordered two pair of shoes, got a new hat and some cards. We met Sam at 5 p.m. and ate a grand chicken dinner at The Farm on the Tacoma Highway. Full of antiques and a fine place to eat. Home thru Tacoma on ferry and to bed early. Everyone had a big day and hope to go again soon. Trying to rain out yet it was warm and sunny all day.

Today we washed and cleaned house good. Put fresh flowers in vases. Took until nearly one o'clock. Then I went out and dug in the garden until after 3 and got about half of another plot cleaned up. I fixed up a cute May basket and took it down to Alma Sundstrom's. It was filled with all spring flowers from my garden and was really lovely. She looks fine. When I came home saw Sam at Belfair talking to Mr. Robertson, but he never showed up for dinner. I fixed a cute basket for myself and have it on the back porch. It looks good. The lawn is so green but needs cutting again so hope weather stays dry so we can cut it. The Bill Cadys were here for about 30 minutes driving Emmett's old Ford pickup. They hope to get a car soon.

The sun came out bright and early today. We raked around the house and Sam mowed on the front lawn. He dug around some of the shrubs, so it was easier to mow around. Have my scrapbooks all up to date. They look good. Tom Webb and another man from Shelton came to look at Belfair property for the PUD building. So, Sam had to leave his lawn mowing and then it started to rain. So, I did not get too much done either as the ground got too damp. After dinner Lovely called up and said she would not be at Officer's Club this time, will go to study group. "Babe" Michael called up and she said the festival was fine and had a two-hour parade. She came home with the Hobrechs. Very wet out, a real April rain, only in May.

Today was very wet up until about noon when the wind started to blow. Now at 6 it is still blowing strong but has dried everything up so we can finish the lawn tomorrow. I hope! Ironed and put away all clothes and then went down to Mary Ruth's to see Babe Michael. We had quite a visit and later they came down to see my garden. However, the rain had flattened out most of the primroses. Have my wildlife album up to date. Have a new cover. It looks good too. Addressed all the Mother's Day cards. Studied in my ritual also. Sam took coupe to Tacoma to get it serviced. To Morgan's Sr. with my May basket of flowers and it looked very nice. She was glad to get them. Had a nice visit. Home early.
