Landslide blocks U.S. Highway 101

A landslide Tuesday morning closed U.S. Highway 101 just south of the intersection of Purdy Cutoff Road/Skokomish Valley Road, leaving a tree upright in the middle of the highway. The state Department of Transportation reports it had an engineering geologist examine the hill before cleanup began. Traffic was rerouted onto state Route 106 and Brockdale Road. WSDOT declared the road cleared about 4:30 p.m.
