Virginia Joy (Sis) McNair

Virginia Joy (Sis) McNair received her wings and departed this world on December 6th, 2021.

Sis was the middle child and lone daughter (thus the name "Sis") of Charles Happy (Hap) Smith and Virginia Estella (Virgie) McMahon Smith, born a miner's daughter in Wallace, Idaho on September 12, 1933. She was raised in Wallace, Idaho, and also in Belfair, WA. She attended grade school in Burke and Coeur d'Alene, then in Belfair, at the Rock Chalet. High School days were spent in Wallace and she graduated from the M&M School of Beauty in Kellogg, Idaho.

Sis married, had three children, divorced, and returned to Belfair in 1958. She met and married Harold Hagan, who adopted her three kids and then added one more to the family. In 1961 Sis and Harold bought the "Peek Inn" Tavern in Belfair, on the North Shore of Hood Canal. They remodeled, added the gas dock, enlarged the business and named it Harold's North Shore Inn. With help from her folks, Hap and Virgie and four energetic and hardworking kids, Harold's grew to be the place to eat, hang out and have a good time. Sis said that she was sure she had fed all of Belfair a cheeseburger or steak at one time or another. It was an iconic establishment that most "Belfairian's " still remember today.

Her chapter here closes, but her story continues. Sis met Dan McNair, Mason County's finest Sheriff and in 1976 she married the love of her life, In Yakima, WA. After Dan's retirement from law enforcement, they started McNair Trucking and long hauled for three years. Being hooked on the road, they became snow birds, and RV'd to Arizona in the winters. They were married for 30 years.

Sis was a member of the Eastern Star/Masonic Temple of Belfair. She loved to dance (the jitterbug being one of her specialties). She loved poetry, and the art thereof. She lived her life with an open heart and a tender ear, her pride was based in her family. Her virtue was service before self. She was a Patriot and sports fanatic.

She lived her life fiercely and brave...the lover of many and resenter of few.

See ya later Mom...

"If there ever comes a day when we can't be together,

keep me in your heart and I'll stay there forever"
