Students in Kilmer's district urged to apply for service academies

Rep. Kilmer encourages students to apply for military service academy nominations

U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, encourages students in Washington’s 5th Congressional District to apply for the nation’s military service academies.

According to a news release, Kilmer can nominate students to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination.

“It’s an honor to consider students for service academy nominations,” Kilmer said in a news release. “Every year there are a lot of great applications and reading through them makes pretty clear to me that our future is in good hands.”

Most students applying to a service academy seek nomination from the U.S. Senator or Representative and there are other ways to earn a nomination.

Kilmer posted a packet of materials for students interested in applying on his website at https://kilmer.house.gov/helping-you/service-academy-nomination. Students with questions about the application process can contact Kilmer’s office at 253-272-3515.
