  • Shelton hopes for project funds from state Legislature

    Gordon Weeks|Nov 18, 2021

The state legislative session that begins in January is not the ideal time for the City of Shelton to ask for money for big-ticket projects, said Troy Nichols, the city’s lobbyist. The short 60-session that begins Jan. 10 is generally reserved for minor tweaks in policy and the state budget, Nichols told the Shelton City Council Nov. 9 at a study session. The state “left very little as far as bonding capacity for the entire state,” he said. “In fact, in terms of general obligation bonds, they left about $82 million to spend for the entire...

  • Letters to the Editor

    Nov 18, 2021

‘Thank you’ Editor, the Journal, We should all be thankful to the Shelton-Mason County Journal for publishing, and to Mr. Ardean Anvik of Shelton for writing, his inspirational guest column in the Nov. 11 edition. In his piece, Anvik paid tribute to American veterans, in particular three uncles who served in World War II. Two were aircrew in the European and Pacific theaters and one was a paratrooper in the legendary 82 Airborne Division on D-Day. Each survived that awful conflict. I find it especially poignant that Mr. Anvik urged us to rem...

  • Year in review

    Alex Fethiere|Nov 18, 2021

Whether on Long or Harstine Islands, my soil had never the tilth for more conventional garden fare. In Long Island I was growing vegetables in rehabilitated lawn...
