    Chantel Dawn Peterson, 29, was charged with first-degree assault, a Class A felony, for shooting Elijah Gossett in the early morning Feb. 12 in Shelton. Peterson had her initial arraignment in court Monday. An omnibus hearing is scheduled for April 10 and the trial is scheduled for May 24.     If voters approve, Island Lake Fire, also know as Mason County Fire Protection District 11, will merge with Central Mason Fire & EMS on June 1. The measure was submited to the county Elections Department Feb. 23 for placement on the ballot during an April 25 special election.     Snow and icy roads have extended the school year for students in Mason County. Snow prompted the Shelton School District to close its eight schools Feb. 23, and then delay school openings by two hours Feb. 24. Schools were again closed Feb. 27, followed by a two-hour delay Feb. 28.     The internal investigation into Mason County Fire Protection District 12 in Matlock is nearing completion, according to the law firm handing the investigation.
