Rained a lot! Even had puddles in Mary and Sam's yard. Loved that their dog Queenie was in the box with the cat. Sam waxed all the floors while Mary dusted and cleaned house. Mostly just more meetings and Mary and Sam attending them....
This week 78 years ago, was very rainy. Kind of like it is now. Attended meetings and a little shopping in Seattle going on. Had to remove Queenie from the washroom. She was barking, wanting to get out. Other than that, not much was going on....
Wet and icky for most of the week. Mary attended chapter meetings all week. Sam had to fix a pipe down at the tavern. I am wondering whether Mary and Sam owned what is now the Woodshed Tavern? Does anybody know?...
More snow. There was lots of ice on the canal. Doing chores like cleaning house and the wash and attending lots of meetings and a dance. Hey! Did you see that the ground hog didn't see its shadow? We can only hope spring is on its way. Sunday, Jan. 29, 1950...
Wet, cold and snowy. Mary and Sam had to drive with chains. Sam has too much alcohol while hanging out in Belfair. Mary hates that!...
They were having very similar weather as what we are having. The power would be off for a while and then eventually come back on. Thank God they had their wood stove. Feeding the birds, Chinese pheasants and keeping Queenie inside was part of their curriculum. Let's hope next week is better....
Mary and Sam have been down south for the better part of the week still hunting ducks and geese. Sam did pretty good. They came home to snow....
The end of the year has come. No birds to hunt, so Mary and Sam go to Los Angeles to see friends. Mary got embarrassed when their dog Queenie dug up a couple of bushes. I had the same experience when I was visiting my parents at their new home in California. My German shepherd was a puppy and she dug up several rose bushes my stepdad had just planted. Oh gosh! Sam's birthday Dec. 29. Happy New Year to all!...
Sam and Mary are busy attending Christmas parties and having people over for dinner. It is getting colder and even starting to snow. I love Christmas time!...
This week was full of Christmas parties and preparing for them. Sam drove off in their car and the cat jumped inside and he didn’t know it. I’ve done that before. It is getting cold out too....
A lot of Christmas doings going on. Wrapping presents, parties, etc. Mary spent over 4 hours on her address book one night for Christmas cards. I remember my mother would spend days writing her Christmas cards out. The weather has turned into lots of rain. A county commissioner drowned....
I really enjoyed reading this week's diary. Felt kind of sorry for Sam having back problems. Mary always refers to him going to the doctors for treatment. I bet you Mary and Sam mailed a lot of Christmas cards....
More meetings this week. Sam comes home from bird hunting with a couple of pheasants. He also brought a vase for Mary for her birthday. It was her birthday this week....
Still hunting during this week, deer and birds. Sam took Queenie out this week again. Mary fixed deer heart for dinner. How many of you have had deer heart?...
Mary and Sam went on a duck hunting trip. They came home and left for east of the mountains to go deer hunting. They took their dog, Queenie. I think she had a good time. Sam got a couple of birds but no deer yet....
Mary is home this week. She pulls the winter clothes out and puts the summer clothes in the attic. Sam catches a terrible cold, but that doesn't stop him from going hunting east of the mountains with Bill Cady. The weather is slowly turning....
Have you noticed Mary and Sam pretty much have a hot meal every breakfast? Even if it is just pancakes? I had to laugh when she shares their pup walked on the freshly painted porch....
Mary is still picking flowers. Henry and Louie are Mary's brothers. Henry had big equipment to carry out the work of the Canadian Timber. I have 16 mm home movies of them doing this job. The big bulldozer sits up on his son's property in Bellingham. And it still runs!...
I live on the Columbia River outside of Longview. Reading this diary from 73 years ago it pretty much is the same. They just finished fishing salmon here the other day. People would go out and sometimes they were lucky and sometimes they weren't. Some of the fish I saw were beauties!...

Mary has returned home from her lengthy vacation. She gets into cleaning the house and getting her laundry caught up, doesn’t miss a beat and gets her hair done. We cannot forget getting the hair done. Where is Sam?...
Blanche gets food poisoning and ends up in the hospital. She and Mary had made a stop on the train and Blanche does not return. She had gone to the hospital and sent a telegram to Mary to tell her she would be catching up later....
