November 13: A Porsche Boxster driven by a suspected drunk driver sustained considerable damage but no one was injured in a spectacular single-vehicle crash near the Log Monument on Olympic Highway South around 9:30 Wednesday morning. The driver, a 43-year-old Olympia woman, was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence. The race for a seat on the Mason County Superior Court bench went to Shelton Municipal Court Judge Amber Finlay, who defeated Belfair attorney Dan Goodell by 1,182 votes after additional ballots were counted Friday. In another local race that was close on election night, Tom Farmer won a seat on the PUD 3 Commission, slipping past opponent Doug Womack to replace longtime Commissioner John Whalen who’s retiring. AmeriCorps has been and hitting the books as part of efforts to help younger people read. Among those recruited to that task is Joy Farquhar of Lake Cushman, who has been assigned to Hood Canal School, where she works with children one-on-one. A 29-year-old Shelton man faces a potential felony charge for owning a dog that was declared dangerous after it bit a young girl last year. Sentencing is set for next week in the case of an intoxicated driver who killed two men when he crashed his sport-utility vehicle into the woods in Shelton on September 21. Aaron James Robinson, 24, of Shelton, pleaded guilty last week in superior court to two counts of vehicular homicide in the deaths of John Evan Parnham, 21, and Albert Brian LaGault, 30. The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group had another wildly successful year at the Union River chum trap. This year, volunteers counted 1,144 chum. Jessica Collins and Jennifer Matson of Belfair are chairwomen of a committee to help pass a North Mason School District bond and levy in February. Shelton High School’s football team lost to Stadium 20-6, ending the season with a winless record.
