Tassle tossin’ time!
To the amusement of counselor Susie Honaker Wirzbicki, about-to-graduate senior Logan Roadman makes a believer of himself at Climber commencement Friday night. For more on the Class of ’08’s big night, see the special SHS graduation supplement in next week’s Journal.

WEEK IN REVIEW

June 12: State officials are starting an investigation into sediment contamination in Oakland Bay. Their goal is to develop a cleanup strategy. The Washington State Department of Ecology will take sediment samples, then analyze them for toxic chemicals. The Department of Ecology denied the Squaxin Island Tribe’s request to halt the digging of wells in the Johns Creek basin near Shelton. At the same time state officials announced plans to work with the city, Port of Shelton, Mason County and Squaxin Island Tribe in other long-term efforts to address water shortage concerns in the basin. The level of Lake Cushman has been rising of late. It has reached 727 feet, with 738 the max and 735 the ideal level as far as Tacoma Power is concerned. He may be living aboard a raft in a place some people call Pirates Cove, but Morris Danner disputes statements made last week by a Port of Shelton employee. Danner, 48, said he is not a sex offender, as characterized by Al Frey, the port’s maintenance

and environmental director. If this year’s Shelton Relay for Life raises $105,000 this year, it will have raised $1 million over the last eight years for cancer research, according to calculations by the Journal. The owner of the Washington State Renaissance Fantasy Faire is confident the event will take place in Belfair this summer. Ron Cleveland says a moratorium has been lifted on the property he hopes will host the large event and he’s moving forward with other preparations to ensure it goes off without a hitch. Legion baseball’s Shelton Timbers ran the table last week, winning all four of their games to improve to 14-5 overall and 5-2 in league.
