Chief uses his noggin
The last time Shelton Fire Chief Jim Ghiglione had his head shaved he was 11. That changed Saturday when he offered to let his head and mustache be clipped at the annual
Toys for Kids Plus auction at Bob's Tavern. Bids went over the $3,500 mark and several people earned the right to help cut his hair. The chief said his wife had never seen him without his mustache, which dated back to around 1970. "The
only people suffering are my barber and shampoo makers," he quipped. The auction earned nearly $40,000. Those funds will be used to buy toys for needy children this Christmas as well as go to other community uses. Shown above giving
Ghiglione's pate a pat is Shelton Fire Department employee Roxanne Bruner.

BETRAYING NOTHING EVEN remotely resembling prematch butterflies, Climberville's defending state champions gather formally and informally as well prior to Monday's nonleague blowout over
Klahowya of Silverdale. Inset: In the front row from left are Cammille Olinger, Alisha Wade, Michelle Robinson and Morgan Whitney. Second row: Brittney Stoutnar, Brittany Estep and Elayna Henry. And in the back: Calista "CJ" Phipps, Chelsey
Stevens, Danielle Baye and Amy Hardie. Not pictured: Tracy Yuan and coaches Curt Snyder and Sarah Stevens. The Climbers dispatched Klahowya 15-3 to improve to 7-0 on the year. Complete details of the nonleague affair will be in next week's
Journal. |
COACH CHRIS LACY puts his hands together for a job well done during the Climbers' home opener last Thursday against North Thurston. That's senior Isaac Garfias (left) stalking his 215-pound
rival in the inset and Shelton teammates Logan Roadman (escaping, right) and Sarah Brownstein (scissoring out, left) battling their respective Ram foes in the nearmost shots. |
THE CHAMBER SINGERS will perform next Friday as the final act in this year's staging of the Soup and Sound concert series. |
A RIVER runs through it: The Tahuya River's high, fast water got the better of this bridge on the Belfair-Tahuya Road. Several other bridges in North Mason were also destroyed during this
past week's storm. |
FIRE DISTRICT 2 Chief Beau Bakken caught this photo of a mudslide-surrounded home that sits below the Burma Road. Chief Bakken took the picture while flying over the Tahuya Peninsula in
a National Guard helicopter to survey damage and provide assistance to trapped residents. |
