Grant School benefit
brings a bell to us

Bargains brought browsers to the 1914 Grant School on Community Club Drive on Saturday when members of the Pickering Homemakers Club held their annual fund-raising bake sale and garage sale. Proceeds from the sale will go toward the preservation fund for the structure, a neighborhood landmark now used as a gathering place. People in the area have been working to restore the old schoolhouse to its former glory by constructing a bell tower for the old school bell. If all goes as planned, the tower and the bell will be hoisted onto the roof by the end of this month with the help of a crew and some heavy equipment from the folks at PUD 3.


FORMER SOLDIER ALMA Barrus is now studying print, photo and broadcast journalism at The Evergreen State College. The Shelton High School graduate is the subject of this week's College Spotlight.

SHELTONIAN Andy McClary is back from the Pan Americn Games where he ran the 1500.

SATURDAY WAS A sunny day for dozens who walked the streets of downtown Shelton to see what the farmers' market might provide. August 12-18 is Washington State Farmers Market Week.

THE LIMELITERS, who started their folk-music act nearly half a century ago, will kick off the Mason County Concert Association's new season this fall. They'll perform at Shelton High School at 7:30 p.m. October 3.
