A real snow job

Here's a sight you don't see very often in Shelton, a young fellow shoveling snow. Trevor Petty, age 10, got to work Wednesday morning in front of Olympic Insurance Agency on Mountain View. The snow followed a flurry of power failures and wind gusts that were an echo of the windstorm that caused a massive outage last month.

Marty Crow this week was appointed to the Shelton School Board to replace Ross Gallagher.

Power push in Potlatch

A crew works on a new administration building for the Cushman Hydroelectric Project in Potlatch. The two Cushman dams are owned by Tacoma Public Utilities and supply electric power to the city on the other side of Puget Sound. The stone structure behind the workers is part of the power generating facilities of the hydroelectric system.

IT'S 'THUMB'S UP' as usual at the Climbers' Timber Bowl domicile Thursday afternoon as Shelton's league-leading pin girls storm to their ninth victory without defeat. Displaying the team's signature mid-match cool, calm & collectiveness with whistle-wetting aplomb at the upper right is senior veteran Lyndsey Wallace. Wordlessly registering herlatest frame's pin count, near, is sophomore Calista "CJ" Phipps. That's our friend CJ again in the topmost inset, fiddling with the team's store of fruit-chewy treats awaiting those who throw strikes, and getting a laugh out of her in the background are fellow veteran teammates (from left) Chelsey Stevens and Michelle Robinson. The nearmost inset? Just evidence of the league-leaders' understandable prematch enthusiasm.

The weather is just going through a stage

High winds of last month destroyed the stage at the Mason County Fairgrounds, according to Mike Rutter of Mason County. He's in charge of maintaining the fairgrounds. "It was built with volunteer labor and lasted for quite a while," he said. Damage to the stage and the roof of a nearby building was estimated at $16,000. Rutter said the county is considering whether to replace the stage with a fixed structure or one that can be moved.

Going right, but
going wrong

It looks pretty bad, but no one was hurt in this roadside wreck along State Route 3 on Monday afternoon. The pickup truck's driver was attempting to turn right, heading northbound on the highway, from the Log Plaza in downtown Belfair when the incident occurred. Apparently a large number of keys on the driver's key chain somehow locked up the steering wheel and he was unable to regain control of the truck before going into the ditch.
