SCOTT HILBURN has been appointed to fill the position of Bill McComb, who resigned from the Mason County Hospital Commission to spend more time with his family and business.

A day to remember

His flanks covered by two younger gentlemen and with a flag marking the headstone they have gathered around, an older soldier salutes his fallen comrades during the playing of "Taps." Several dozen people attended Memorial Day ceremonies held Monday morning at Shelton Memorial Park.

SHELTON'S HIGHCLIMBER Chris Evans shot 74-67, a three under 141, to tie for third at the state 4A golf tournament.

WHETHER SHOWBOATING in jest or chasing in vain, net-keepers prove central to the daylong action last Sunday at Mt. View Field as play continues in Shelton's New Millennium Soccer League. The fallen forward in the insets' two-part sequence? Expressions notwithstanding, he was back on his feet and ready to go within moments. Now in its sixth year, the community's predominantly Latino alliance boasts fully 14 teams. Action continues every Sunday for the next several weeks. Watch these pages in issues to come to get a more formal look-see at the players themselves.

THE UNSEEN HAND of culvert-cam took a dive under State Route 3 while this crew from the Washington State Department of Transportation worked to repair the damage of a failed culvert that created a sinkhole.

Honoring those who have served

The community's annual Memorial Day observance once again drew large crowds at the Allyn Waterfront Park and Gazebo to honor those who have served in the United States military. Ron O'Dell, a United States Navy Vietnam combat veteran, who served from 1965 to 1972, is seen here looking over the service memorabilia of another veteran. Several such storyboards were placed around the gazebo. In addition to the storyboards, flags were retired, veterans shared comments with those gathered and a memorial wreath was released into North Bay. The annual event is sponsored by the Allyn Community Association, the Port of Allyn and the North Mason chamber.
