Having a good old time

Matlock plays fair with history last weekend as hundreds assemble on the campus of Mary M. Knight School. The Old Timer's Historical Fair was held under cloudy and sometimes rainy skies Saturday and Sunday, but that didn't stop youngsters from hitching a ride and oldsters from displaying their vintage farm equipment. The fair was started in the mid-Eighties by a small group of local residents concerned about the fading memory of their pioneering forefathers. Originally it was a gathering of antique tractor and engine enthusiasts, but it since has expanded to include many other attractions. Music by Vern Morgus, Paul Barber and representatives of the Washington Old Time Fiddlers was made in memory of Merv Wharton.
