FROM THE PREGAME panache of the current Climbers (top, as Superintendent Joan Zook exhorts them to "go easy on the senior citizens") to the game-long renewal of friendships (near, with
coach Harlan Buitenveld holding forth with Seventies' star Mark Tuson), the evening proceeded pretty much as scripted Friday during Shelton's inaugural Climber Hoop Reunion in the Minidome did, that is, until the hardcourt heroes of yore shocked
the young'uns with a second half to remember. From left at the top are Colby Brewer, Bill Richardson, Isaiah Taito and, Jeff Kieburtz. In the inset, the 'oldtimers' strike a pregame pose. In front from left are David Buitenveld, Brian Corey,
Bryan Gregg and Dean McCoy. Second row: Glen Anderson, John Vernon, Dave Sutton, Duane Makoviney, Doug Long, Drew Ekin, Dale "Red" Johnson and Mark Ziegler. Back: Coach Buitenveld, Scott Eichhorn, John Richardson, Todd Brewer, Stan Kaszycki
(in street clothes), Chris McGee, Sterling Stock, Mark Tuson, Jimmie Richardson, Todd Young and Tim Avey. Not pictured are Matt Bogh and Mike Martin. Down by 17 at the half, the alums roared back to tie with a minute to go and wound up losing
by just three, 71-74. |

PROUDLY DISPLAYING their entry, "Magnetic Levitating Car versus Wheels," in this year's Mason County Science & Engineering Fair are Jeff Boysen, on the left, and Cannon Milligan
of Southside School. |

Martin is Rotarian of the year
The North Mason Rotary Club has overwhelmingly selected charter member Harry Martin as their Rotarian of the year for 2003. Martin, who came up with the idea for and works tirelessly
on behalf of the Taste of Hood Canal each summer, is joined by Rotary District 5020 Governor Bill McCarthy at one of the local organization's weekly meetings. Local club president Debbie Wing says that Martin, who has a perfect attendance
record at those meetings, always brings new ideas about community service before fellow members in the organization and is a consummate gentleman. |
