LAURIE HALL, right, embraces Jennifer Diem as the two Matlock women meet for the first time since December 15. Diem credits Hall, an EMT with Fire District 12, with saving her life after a two-vehicle collision which Hall came upon on her way to work.

Winged getaway?

Yeah, but for every one that escapes like this bald eagle on its daily commute last week above Sunset Beach on the south end of Hood Canal a regular gaggle wind up in someone's eagerly clutched binoculars, and as a matter of local custom, no less, during the Audubon Society's annual bird-watching tour.

HUGGING TWO HAITIAN girls during a mission trip is Sherry Thacker, youth ministry and worship director for Shelton Christian Church. She was featured in this week's What's Cookin'? column.

OBSERVATION OF Saint David's Day in Shelton will feature a concert by tenor Trebor Edwards of Wales at 7 p.m. March 5 at Saint David's Episcopal Church.

HIS BUZZER-BEATER having whipped a packed Minidome crowd into joyous pandemonium just seconds earlier, Climber guard Colby Brewer ricochets out of a war-whooping body slam with teammate Jeff Kieburtz following his three-pointer at the end of regulation Friday. Alas, overtime found the Climbers' momentum suddenly gone, and the visiting Knights of Bremerton and nationally touted center Marvin Williams escaped with a win and their playoff lives.

NEVER UNPREPARED IN the event of a random photo-op, the Climber dance-team girls oblige a wandering lens recently in the Minidome, where moments afterward they regaled roundball fans with their usual choreographed intricacies.
