THE VOLUNTEER Shelton Historic Preservation Board makes recommendations to the city commission on which properties in the city should be put on the historic register, such as the old Shelton Hotel at First and Railroad, which made the list in 2003. Several city and county boards act in an advisory capacity on such issues as transportation, planning and use of lodging tax money. Positions on 20 volunteer boards regularly come up for appointment by the city and county commissions.
