The only year ridership has not increased since the inception of the bus system was 2001, when service was cut because of the loss of a main source
of revenue, the motor-vehicle excise tax, after the legislature drastically cut the cost of licensing vehicles. Service was restored when county voters approved an increase in the sales tax to pay costs formerly
covered by the excise tax.
